Within the 'FIre Eaters' group I have the role of Co Convener and Sign Maker. As Co Convener with the help of Sheldon we have distributed roles within the group, highlighted main points of contention as a group, split these points between researcher/writers/presenters, set a timeframe for each role to adhere too and plan to guide and keep all Radical Secessionists on task. As a Sign Maker I have researched different confederate flags, battle flags, art work and have decided on a Confederate Battle Flag as the prominent design for our sign. Monique Szabo 'Radical Secessionist'
"fire eaters" Speech writer and presenter. The main thing so far was to think about appropriate emotional language that would adequately represent a fire eater. By analyzing their arguments, and they're use of language, I can see that a speech from a fire eater would be highly emotional, holding great importance for tradition, heritage, Christianity and 'the simple life'; and playing on aspects of fear.
As a presenter for the free blacks and escaped slaves, and previously a table negotiator, I have been looking at the research done by our researchers, as well as researching information about the other groups and trying to find those groups who we may be able to form alliances with, and those who we may be able to appeal to in our speech.
Presenter and Sign-maker for the free blacks and escaped slaves, I collaborated with the writers on how the presentation will run and what our main points will be. Also discussed speaking roles with Alice, the other presenter. And the sign is coming along nicely too :)
as convener for free blacks and escaped slaves i helped organize the roles of the group members, organized points of contact and was involved with key theme discussions.
My role within the "fire eaters" group is writer. I am working with both researchers and the presenter to get the information and tone appropriate for this particular group's presentation and manifesto.
In taking on the role of ‘writer’ in the ‘freed blacks and escaped slaves’ group, I have worked alongside Nicole in writing a clear speech for the presenters to deliver to the class. I have spent time going through the research and information compiled by the ‘researchers’ of the group and then narrowed this down into points and after that, a speech. With Nicole as my partner and co writer, I have formed a well written piece of work that is sure to express how the ‘freed blacks and escaped slaves’ felt around the time of the Fugitive Slave Act. Also, I have made an effort to work with the entire collective group to establish how we would present our views to the class and what the theme of our speech would be, entail etc.
"I am in the group Black slaves and have the role of roving negotiator which means on the day of the convention we walk around and try to compromise and negotiate with other groups. In preparation we have set out the main goals of our groups and other groups and then decided where we are willing to compromise and who we think will be willing to compromise with us."
